Actinomyces israelii is a type of Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium found in the genus Actinomyces. Typically residing harmlessly on and within the human body, A. israelii can become an opportunistic pathogen, leading to the disease actinomycosis. While it is mainly linked to chronic granulomatous infections in humans, it has also been occasionally isolated from pyogranulomatous lesions in pigs and cattle.
